Appearance!Cedarstar is a dark brown Tabby, with reddish-brown accent fur (like the tufts on top of his ears), and black spiral pattern along his entire body. His tail tip is entirely black, following the spiral pattern. He’s a scrawny boi who hides his bones under fluffily textured fur. He’s not quite a long-haired cat, but his fur isn’t short either. The fur on his ears tufts up from the top, and the fur on his chest and chin protrude outwards. The fur on his back, head, and legs is darker than his chest fur, which is a lighter shade of brown. He’s a very long & slender cat. He’s strong and fast, but you can’t really tell unless you see him do something that requires him to use his strength or speed. He has heterochromia, or two different coloured eyes. His right eye is a sharp blue, whilst his left eye is a sunny gold. This doesn’t affect his vision but does cause other cats to give him second glances. His fangs stick out from his lips giving him a goofy smile, which he rarely shows to cats whom he isn’t comfortable with.

Personality!Cedarstar is a total goofball who likes his hidey-holes, always finding new places to squeeze into and hide away for some peace. He spends a lot of his time down in the tunnel system below Windclan, but also likes to lounge in the tree that him and his friends hang out in. He loves to drag his friends into the tunnels and watch them squiggle around, since most of them aren’t as fond of the deep-dark underground as he is. It’s peaceful to him, being able to burrow under the dirt and hide in the quiet dark. When he’s above ground (and not in the tree) he’s doing one of a few things. Playfully stealing kits from the nursery and generally playing with them, hunting (either solo or with his friends), helping with patrols and the borders, or helping to teach the new generations. He loves to teach, and will leap at any chance he gets to help someone with something. This also means that he will bend over backwards for those he cares about, risking life and limb to ensure both their safety and happiness. He’s a bit socially awkward, so he sometimes struggles to make new friends. He tries his best, and that’s all that matters.

Cedarstar's Backstory!

Kit-hood -> ApprenticeshipMy kit-hood is mostly a long-forgotten blur. I don’t remember my old name, but I do remember my mother, Sophie. I remember the two-leg nest I was born in, and the bed my 2 siblings and I used to sleep on when our mother was gone. I also remember the fear; the fear our mother instilled in us regarding the twolegs who cared for us. We were not her first litter you see. We were her third. Both of her previous litters had been born in the same place as us, cared for just like us, and then one day they disappeared. Our mother told us that the twolegs took them away, but that she would never let them take us away too. She didn’t know where her other kits had gone, but she didn’t want to lose us too. I wish she had been able to keep her promise.
Just before we turned 2 moons old, the twolegs came and picked us all up, one by one, and placed us in a box. We were frightened, crying out for our mother to help, but she was nowhere to be found. The harder we cried, the louder the twolegs got. One struck the box we were in, trying to scare us into being quiet. We obeyed out of fear. We were taken outside of the twoleg nest and into the darkness of outside, and then a loud rumbling noise filled our ears. The monster that the twolegs travelled in swallowed our box, and we started moving. We were moving for what felt like an eternity, when our box was lifted into the air. We huddled together, trying to stay calm, but nothing could prepare us for what was coming. The twoleg that had lifted our box tossed us out of the monster, which sent us careening through the air and smashing into the ground with a heavy crash. Tumbling along the ground, we were tossed around and collided with each other as much as we collided with the ground outside. As our rolling came to an end, the rumbling of the monster faded away. And then the bleak, quiet, nothingness filled our ears.
It was quiet. Dark. Not a single sound could be heard. The only sense that was useful was our smell, but even then, all we could smell was the thunderpath. We huddled together in the box, wondering what would be next, and tried to sleep until day.
When day broke over the horizon, I was the first to awake. I looked over at my brother and sister, still sleeping together, and poked my nose out of the box. The sunlight was soft and warm, and there was dew on the grass in front of me. I slowly slid further out of the only protection I had, and took in my surroundings. Our box had tumbled away from the thunderpath, though not far, and found itself propped against an alder tree. Outside, green grass stretched out as far as my eyes could see, with only a few trees visible in the distance. My focus was disturbed by the sounds of my siblings waking up, so I crawled back into the box to see how they were doing.
“How’re you two doing?” I asked, trying to sound unphased.
“I’m a little shaken up, but I don’t think I’m hurt. How’re you?”
“I’m alright, just a little shaken up. What about you little brother, what say you?
“I’m ok, I’m just scared… What now, are we by ourselves?”
I’m sure we all knew the answer, but none of us wanted to think about it. We had just been torn away from the one place we had known, from our mother, and now we were totally alone in an unfamiliar world. The scarier thing was that this was more than likely the same thing that had happened to our lost siblings. The thought of them being tossed like we had, tumbling through darkness and hiding in a box scared was not pleasant, so I tried to keep it at bay as best I could.
“Come on,” I said, motioning towards the opening in the box, “we should get out of here and find somewhere safer. I don’t think this will work forever.”
We walked for what felt like ages, trying to find a place we thought would be safe for just one night. The ground we walked on was covered in a sparse grass, and there wasn’t much cover for us to hide under. The wind howled, rustling our fur as we walked, and walking was hard when the wind picked up and tossed us around. At one point, I was pushed into a puddle of mud by the wind, accidentally knocking my sister into it as well. Now cold, tired, and wet from the mud, we were losing hope. We were getting ready to give up looking when we saw what looked like a hole in the ground ahead, which sparked a bit of life into us.
“Look, maybe we could stay in there for a bit!” called my brother, picking up his pace as he trotted forward towards the hole.
“Wait a second, something doesn’t smell right” said my sister, but he couldn’t hear her.
The smell grew stronger as we came closer to the hole, until it filled out noses. Apparently only my sister and I could smell it however, because despite us stopping cold in our tracks our brother continued. Before we could call out again, we saw a flash of orange fur bolt out from within the hole and snatch our brother in its mouth. Horrified, we watched as this mass of fur and teeth tore him apart, swinging him from side to side. Before we could react, the creature dropped him and began to sniff the air. It was tall, with fur as orange as the sun itself. It had long legs and a fluffy tail, and a long nose that pointed to the sky as it scented its surroundings. Without thinking, we turned and ran as fast as we could out of fear. I was faster than my sister, but she held her own for once. Perhaps it was the adrenaline, pushing her body to its limits as she tried to survive. We continued running until we couldn’t run anymore. We collapsed under a big rock that hung far over our heads, shielding us from the wind and sky. Tears began swelling in my eyes, and I could only gasp for air as I tried to comfort my sister. Neither of us could speak, we just sobbed as it began to rain lightly outside of the overhang. The rain fell like our tears, almost as if the world was mourning the loss of our brother with us. Staying as close together as we could, we tried to curl into the deepest part of the rocky overhang to sleep our way out of this never-ending nightmare.
I awoke to the sound of a voice I didn’t recognize. It sounded close, but I couldn’t see anyone through my blurry vision. I shook my head and peered out as far as I could, and found the source of the voice. Out beyond the edge of the rock stood a pair of cats. They looked as though they were talking to each other, and one flicked their tail toward our hiding spot. Crouching low to the ground, I inched closer to the band of cats so I could hear what they were saying.
“This is where the smell is coming from, I’m sure of it. The wind isn’t helping, but I’m sure of it,” said one cat, flicking their tail towards us again.
“I’m sure you’re right, but that means we should be ready for anything. It’s been a while since we’ve had rogues come this close to camp, and I’m willing to bet they’re hungry enough to take us all on.”
Rogues? What were they talking about? They clearly knew that we were here, but what was a rogue? I crawled slowly backwards, gently waking my sister and shushing her with my tail.
“We’ve got company, and they seem nervous,” I said, still holding my tail over her mouth. “Come on, maybe we can talk to them and see if they can help us.”
We got up and slowly worked our way out from our hiding spot, and called out to the cats.
“Hello? Is it safe to come out now?” my sister called, giving me a quick glance as she did.
The group froze before looking our way, and then a look I can only describe as confusion and worry crossed their faces simultaneously.
“Kits?! What are two kits doing out here? They’re not OUR kits! What’s the deal here?!” exclaimed a long-haired she-cat. Her tail stiffened outwards as she spoke, almost out of alarm.
“Easy now, don’t frighten them. Let me talk to them,” said the ginger tom. “What are you two doing at Outlook rock, how did you get here?”
“Outlook rock?” I answered, tilting my head in a confused manner. “What’s outlook rock? We hid in a hole back there sometime last night, we needed to or it would have gotten us like it got our brother.”
As I spoke, the tom fixed his eyes on me. “What would have gotten you, did something happen? You need to tell me, now. It’s ok, we won’t hurt you.”
“The orange thing killed our brother,” spoke my sister as she stood by my side. “We were looking for somewhere to stay for the night and found a hole. Something smelled funny, but we couldn’t say anything before the creature came out and killed our brother. It would have found us too, but we ran all the way here. We came from that way.” She motioned to our side with her tail, indicating the direction e came from. Her eyes teared up as she spoke, remembering the look on our brothers face before the light faded from his eyes.
The tom turned his head towards the she-cat as he spoke. “A fox has to be. Get to camp and gather up a patrol, search the entire territory. If it’s denning in our territory, we need to drive it out. I’ll bring these two in, we’ll be right behind you.”
“Got it, see you soon.”
Little did we know, this would be the beginning of our new lives. We had unknowingly found ourselves in Windclan territory, which was 1 of 4 clans in the surrounding area. After we were brought to their camp, we were told we could join their clan, or we could go out to die alone. We opted for the choice that involved living. Nobody seemed too fond of us for quite a while, even other kits seemed distant. We were given new names, names that matched what the clans would call their own kits. I was named Cedarkit, and my sister was named Rabbitkit. I’ve long forgotten if we used to have other names. We learned all about clan life from one of the she-cats in the nursery who would take care of us, even though she didn’t much like us. We learned that we could become apprentices when we turned 6 moons, and that apprentices train with mentors to become warriors. Things were so different here from what we had known, but we knew very little of either world as it turned out. Being torn away from our old home so young, we adapted quickly to clan life.
When we turned 6 moons, or as close as anyone could figure since we weren’t clan born, we became apprentices. We earned our apprentice names, Cedarpaw and Rabbitpaw. It had been 4 moons since we arrived, and the other cats had grown used to us. We weren’t being given cold stares anymore, but we still weren’t exactly loved. We were still very much by ourselves in the world as far as we were concerned, even if we did have some support.
